The Office of Prevention and Early Intervention
Promoting safe and healthy children, nurturing families and building strong communities is what the Office of Prevention and Early Intervention (OPEI) is all about. As a first step in the fight against at-risk children opening a door from which they cannot return, OPEI works with children, youth, families, communities, schools and more to provide activities for children and youth to prevent:
- child abuse
- dependency
- neglect
- juvenile delinquency
- mental health disorders
- tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse
The Mission of OPEI , which falls under The Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families (DSCYF), is to reach out to children, youth and their families to eliminate the need for state intervention and to facilitate transitions of children in care back to the community.
The Goals of OPEI are:
- Reducing the number of young people entering the care of the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families;
- Helping to ease the transitions for young people in the care of the state when they return to their communities; and
- Reducing the number of young people needing repeat care from the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families.
The Office of Prevention and Early Intervention is located in Building 18 at the Barley Mill Plaza, at Route 141 and Lancaster Pike in Wilmington . Our Mailing address is 1825 Faulkland Road, Wilmington, DE 19805 . The main phone number for our office is (302) 892-4500.
