- Secretary Cari DeSantis Appointed to APHSA Board of Directors
- Cari DeSantis, Cabinet Secretary for the Department of Services for Children, Youth and their Families, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA). She was also selected to chair the National Council of State Human Service Administrators.

- The Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families today presented its FY 2007 budget request to continue Governor Minner's foster care initiatives, expand intensive out-patient services and strengthen the foundation of the Department's internal operations. The request proposed to the State Budget Director includes $1,065,000 in new initiatives for a total budget of $160.5 million. Cabinet Secretary Cari DeSantis also discussed the implementation of a four-year strategic plan to bolster children's services throughout the State.

- The Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families’ federally mandated Annual Progress and Services Report (APSR) for Federal Fiscal Year 2005 has been approved by the US Department of Health & Human Services Regional Office in Philadelphia. The 2006 child welfare grant applications were also approved. The Children’s Department will now receive its annual allotment of over $2.2 million in federal grant money to provide services to Delaware’s children and families.

- The Delaware Children’s Department has invited Rev. Eugene Rivers back to Delaware to meet with members of the Interfaith Coalition: Building Blocks of Wilmington today. The goal of this meeting is to further discuss ways to reduce violence within the City and to present a model, developed by the Values Response Team (VRT), designed to decrease shootings and gang retaliation.

- In its first partnership with the State, the prestigious Milton Hershey School (Hershey, Pa.) has offered admission to a foster child from Delaware. As the largest boarding school in the United States, MHS has been in operation for almost a century and currently serves 1,300 boys and girls in grades K-12 from families with the greatest financial and social needs.

- Three thousand children throughout Delaware will receive summer safety kits from the Delaware Children’s Department. The translucent, colorful plastic kits contain band aids, anti-bacterial ointment, sunscreen, lip balm and information on practical summer safety tips such as water, backyard and playground safety and will be distributed to selected summer camps.
